GPS positioning in a multipath environment

چکیده
We address the problem of GPS signal delay estimation in a multipath environment with a low-complexity constraint. After recalling the usual early–late estimator and its bias in a multipath propagation context, we study the maximum-likelihood estimator (MLE) based on a signal model including the parametric contribution of reflected components. It results in an efficient algorithm using the existing architecture, which is also very simple and cheap to implement. Simulations show that the results of the proposed algorithm, in a multipath environment, are similar to these of the early–late in a single-path environment. The performance are further characterized, for both MLEs (based on the single-path and multipath propagation) in terms of bias and standard deviation. The expressions of the corresponding Cramér—Rao (CR) bounds are derived in both cases to show the good performance of the estimators when unbiased.

Multipath Detection Using the Dendritic Cell Algorithm
For engineering applications high precision GPS with survey grade receivers allows positioning in real-time to a centimetre level of precision. Many of the error sources affecting the GPS signal have been significantly removed in order to achieve such high precision. However, one error source that is difficult to mitigate is that of the multipath error. GPS signal multipath occurs when the GPS ...

This paper presents a method that is based on Electromagnetic Modeling (EM) technique for modelling GPS carrier phase multipath signals. A commercial software plus modules developed in-house are used for modeling and processing carrier phase multipath error parameters. Static multipath modeling experiments show that up to about 35% carrier phase errors and about 25% 3D positioning errors can be...

Moving GNSS towards indoor positioning is an important challenge. Increases in receiver sensitivity, the forthcoming increase in number of GNSS satellites and signal design improvements all contribute to addressing this challenge. Another remaining issue for GNSS-based indoor positioning is the impact of signal multipath phenomena in indoor environments. We designed an measurement campaign with...
متن کاملMultipath Mitigation of Permanent GPS Stations Using Wavelets
It is well known that multipath disturbance is one of the major error sources impacting on high precision GPS positioning. The multipath disturbance is largely dependent on the receiver’s environment since satellite signals can arrive at the receiver via multiple paths, due to reflections from nearby objects such as trees, buildings, vehicles, etc. Although the multipath effect can be reduced b...

Multipath is among the major sources of errors in precise positioning using GPS and continues to be extensively studied. Two Fast Fourier Transform (FFT)-based detectors are presented in this paper as GPS multipath detection techniques. The detectors are formulated as binary hypothesis tests under the assumption that the multipath exists for a sufficient time frame that allows its detection bas...

In this paper, multipath error on Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) signals in urban environments is characterized with the help of Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) measurements. For this purpose, LiDAR equipment and Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver implementing a multipath estimating architecture were used to collect data in an urban environment. This paper demonstrates how ...
